
About the Diploma in Nursing (R171)
The R171 Diploma in Nursing is a three-year, full-time programme that leads to professional registration as a General Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC). The course integrates academic theory with hands-on clinical experience at accredited public healthcare facilities across KwaZulu-Natal.

Minimum Entry Requirements
Academic Requirements:
Applicants must have a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a Diploma or Bachelor’s endorsement. The following minimum subject achievements apply:
- English (Home Language or First Additional Language): Level 4
- Life Sciences: Level 4
- Mathematics: Level 3 or Mathematical Literacy: Level 4
- Life Orientation: Level 4
- Two additional subjects to achieve a minimum APS of 27
Additional Criteria:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must reside in KwaZulu-Natal
- Must have a clear criminal record
- Must be medically fit and willing to undergo medical evaluation
- Must demonstrate a genuine interest in nursing
- Applicants with health-related post-matric qualifications will be given preference
