Position: Fire Fighter
Purpose of the Role
As a Fire Fighter, you will play a critical role in safeguarding Sasol’s assets, operations, and personnel from the adverse impacts of emergency incidents. This role contributes to emergency preparedness and incident response in line with our SHERQ (Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Quality) standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply best practices in SHE during all emergency response activities
- Respond to emergency situations within agreed timeframes
- Participate in plant emergency drills and preparedness initiatives
- Maintain mental and physical fitness through ongoing training
- Assist in identifying opportunities to improve emergency response effectiveness
- Engage in safety initiatives and promote a culture of continuous improvement
- Maintain housekeeping standards in emergency facilities
- Cooperate with internal stakeholders to ensure safety and compliance
- Meet Key Performance Areas (KPAs) and contribute to Personal Development Plans (PDPs)
- Support knowledge sharing and innovation in fire and emergency operations
Minimum Requirements
Education:
- Grade 12 or equivalent (Mathematical Literacy required)
Certifications:
- Fire Fighter 1 & 2 (NFPA 1001) – Mandatory
- Hazmat Awareness and Operations (NFPA 1072/472) – Mandatory
- Level 3 First Aid (HWSETA) – Mandatory
- HPCSA Registered BAA (Basic Life Support) – Preferred
- HPCSA Registered ILS (Intermediate Life Support) – Preferred
Driver’s Licenses:
- Code B (light motor vehicle) – Mandatory
- Code C1 (heavy motor vehicle) – Strong Advantage
Fitness:
- Must be medically fit and meet the Fire Fighter fitness level as per assessment standards
Experience Required
- 0 to 5 years of relevant emergency services or fire response experience
Note: Candidates will be appointed based on experience and qualifications as per Sasol’s Fire Fighter Career Path Policy – from trainee level up to Leading Fire Fighter.
