
City of Tshwane Launches First TMPD Recruitment Drive Since 2015
For the first time in nearly a decade, the City of Tshwane has officially opened applications to recruit 200 trainee officers for the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD). This long-awaited move marks a significant commitment to improving community safety, creating job opportunities for youth, and strengthening by-law enforcement across the metro.
Why This Recruitment Matters
1. Breaking a 10-Year Hiatus:
This is TMPD’s first major recruitment since 2015. The 2025 intake marks a fresh start and a renewed focus on visible policing and effective law enforcement.

Who Can Apply?
Applications are open to South African citizens aged 18 to 35 who meet the following requirements:
- South African Citizenship & Tshwane Residency
- Minimum of Grade 12 (Matric Certificate)
- Valid Manual Driver’s Licence (Code B)
- No Criminal Record
- Medically Fit (confirmed via medical certificate)
- Fluent in English (written and spoken)
- Good Character: Disciplined, ethical, and committed to community service
- Physical Fitness Requirements:
- Men: 2.4 km run in under 11 minutes, obstacle course in 3 minutes or less
- Women: 2.4 km in under 14 minutes 29 seconds, obstacle course in 4 minutes or less
Selection & Training Process
Applicants will go through a multi-stage selection process:

- Background & Fingerprint Check
- Interview Panel
Training Overview:
- 4-Week Selection Course – Designed to filter the most suitable candidates
- 18-Month Trainee Contract – Stipend of approximately R3,000 per month
- Basic Metro Police Training Programme:
- Traffic enforcement

- Firearm training
- Emergency response and first aid
- Community engagement
Successful graduates may be appointed as permanent Metro Police Constables and deployed across any of the 105 wards in Tshwane.
